Tuesday, February 9th Daily Reading Matthew 1:18-25

As I read this very familiar account of the birth of Jesus I am struck by two things. First is the amazing way that God has to weave events, places, and people together to accomplish his plan and purpose. There is no denying it Jesus has provided salvation from sin. He is the promised and anointed one. He is fully God, with us. This is confirmed by the way God fulfilled all of his promises through these two individuals Mary and Joseph. Both are remarkable in their own right. I must remember that God's purposes have already been established (Ephesians 2:10). He puts people in positions and in places and in circumstances for His plan. He did it incredibly with Mary and Joseph. Is He doing that for me?

The second thing that struck me is Joseph immediate obedience. He got up and did "what the Lord had commanded him." I need time. I want to debate God, reason with Him. But just hear it and do it - who does that? Joseph did, and I should.

God help me to obey immediately! You plan is set thank you for including me.

  1. I love the relationship God has with these two people. He knew their hearts. They had little moments where their humanity shows through, but God knew they were faithful to Him, He knew they were the right ones to raise HIS SON!
I love that He sends an angel to Joseph, after Joseph hears the news, he doesn't get scolded, or an NCIS slap on the head, God KNEW how Joseph would react, He knew Joseph was godly, but also a Human. God simply encouraged him, confirmed this was His will, and like Shawn said, that's all he needed, his next reaction was "OK"

Lord help me remember that you KNOW me. From the moment i was conceived, YOU have KNOWN my heart, help me to trust fully in your plans.

  2. My friend and I were talking earlier today about how this is one of only a few incidents of Joseph in the bible. We don't know what happened to him after this but what an intragal part he plays in our Savior's birth.

It's a reminder to me that the parts I play in God's plans don't have to be big to be significant. Even the smallest act on God's behalf can effect someone else's eternity greatly.

To God be the glory forever and ever AMEN!!!
