Monday, February 8th Daily Reading Isaiah 53

I am not one given to emotional responses - but upon reading this passage I am left tearful and speechless. All I want to say is "Thank You" to my God and my Savior. The passage provides many pictures of a Holy God who completely empties and debases himself to provide salvation for all who will receive it. The passage talks about Christ, but I kept reflecting on myself. My desperate need and undeserving nature. On one side I was embarrassed and ashamed for my sin, but oddly taking pride in what Jesus has done (or was going to do when this message was first delivered). It reminded me of the words from the song "How Deep The Fathers Love For Us" by Stuart Townend.

As I consider how I can live this passage out I steal a line from that song, "I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection." I will boast loudly! I look froward to our journey IN THE WORD together.

Here are all the words to the song for your personal worship.

How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

  1. God had a plan for us. He allowed Jesus to suffer pain, humilation, loneliness, sadness all for us. We are so unworthy, I am so unworthy yet God did this all for us. An unworthy world. He loves us so much that he actually planned all of this for us.

Thank you God. Thank you for loving me that you send Jesus for me. You made it personal, you did it for me. Praise God. What a mighty awesome God we serve.

  2. What always strikes me is GRACE. Jesus had no favorites, He did not discriminate, He never once said, "I'm only going to do this for people who appreciate it, otherwise, they don't deserve it" He didn't pick and choose, what a humbling lesson for us! How many times do I do something based on how it will be received? Lord, help me follow your example and love all men just as you did, and to extend your GRACE to them.

  3. LOVE that song. I am so unworthy of His sacrifice, and this Psalm makes me question how much I truly follow Him as I read that He was a man of sorrows and familiar with suffering. It's hard for me to relate to that kind of life. Perhaps because I seek out my comfort more than His will.

  4. I love how God uses THE WORD to "call His shot." He tells us time and time again what to do. I know that I myself am very good at not listening. This is why God is soooo much better than me. He knew from the beginning that no matter how many times He showed me I was not going to follow directions. If I was God I would be so frustrated with people not listening. Instead of giving up on us He gives us a way. He has it set-up so no matter what we can not mess it up. All we have to do is believe it and try to be a good servant. How I wish to have His patience. He came to Earth not because He had to. He has NEVER needed us. He just couldn't stand to be without us. He did it all because He wanted to. Thank God we have a way in the blood of Jesus. May I learn how to try to have his patience and love.
