What do you make of these parables? What do you learn from these teachings about the Kingdom of heaven?

Friday, February 19, 2010 Reading - Matthew 13:1-43
In today's passage Jesus tells four different parables, the parable of the sower, the parable of the weeds, the parable of the mustard seed, and the parable of the yeast. The first parable teaches about how the gospel is accepted (or not) by different types of people. The last three parables refer to the kingdom of God. Instead of writing my thoughts today, I'm interested in hearing yours.

Jesus taught several lessons in these parables. One thing in the parable about the sower is that we must read and understand His word and be steadfast in our beliefs so that we will be fruitful because Satan is always prowling, trying to snatch away the seeds of goodness, righteousness and the promises of the Kingdom to come planted by God in our hearts.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that Jesus would speak first of the types of people who would accept or not accept Him and His word and then right after that talk about His kingdom that is made up of those very people.
ReplyDeleteI've read these verses before but the explanations of them never struck me before. The one that hit me most tonight and made me say WOW over and over was one about the tares. I just don't know what to say. I find it interesting that this parable was only explained to the disciples and not the multitudes. Maybe that because of its content...those who don't believe would not have understood what Jesus was really trying to say.
Man, I just find it neat how God's word works. Fascinating! :)
P.S.
ReplyDeleteUpon further reading of the chapter some interesting things came up. Each of the next 4 parables are relating to Kingdom values and, responsibilities. 47-50 appears to tie in with 36-43. (Please correct me if I'm wrong). I'd check it out and consider it. It's good stuff. :)
