Monday, January 25, 2010 Reading Psalm 119:65-72
This psalm is encouraging and unsettling. It starts off speaking of the goodness of God, but later speaks of God's disciplining or afflicting hand. It goes on to say, "You are good and do only good" (vs. 68 NLT) It is a mature person who views the discipline of God as "good" thing. We know that it is, but I am guilty of not viewing it like that. I pray that I will value and pay attention (vs 71-72) to God's word with no need of His discipline, but I know it won't work like that. Let me thank God for his goodness to me, even when it is expressed with a loving and disciplining hand.

Psalm 119:59 Reminds me that my ways are not correct, even when I think they are, I should always look to God for the answers...I should never assume I know what is right, the past has shown me my ways are wrong. Psalm 119:64 Wow, even in the midst of letting us know we should obey, as a parent corrects a child, he lets us know he loves us all!! I am humbled God, Thank you... never let me forget!!!!
ReplyDeletein looking back he is thankful for the lessons learned from his correction. The Life Lessons long outlive the pain of discipline. That humbles me also, but also challenges me to think about how I correct my children, is it effective? Does it stir heart change, or simply scare them into submission for the next 15 minutes? :D
ReplyDeleteMany times in my life I've looked back on bad experiences and realized that I gained valuable lessons from them. What I haven't always done is connected those lessons to the discipline of God for my wayward actions.
ReplyDeleteLord, please help me stay on your path and open my heart to your word so I don't have to learn every lesson the hard way.

Just a great reminder of what an uphill battle life can be living any other way. You may encounter things that feel or look good. But they never last and always leave you empty inside. Its a true blessing to witness first hand his power and grace working in my family. Sometimes I just catch myself saying WOW! He is truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteLord I truly love you and thank you for the miracles you perform in my family on a daily basis.

One thing I am always trying to remind myself is to never be comfortable. In my life there is always things I can do better. More importantly in my Christian life as well. The affliction is good because a lot of times I think I know best. Then God has to drag me "kicking and screaming" through it. Then after all is said and done I realized if I would follow Him and obey I would not have had to struggle so much.
