Monday, January 18th Reading - Psalm 119:9-16

I love this it starts off with a question and then proceeds to answer the question. I like when it is this obvious. When my life is "pure" I am staying out of a pit, free from spiritual stench, away from the confusion of tug-of-war in my decision making - things become more clear. According to the psalmist I accomplish this by seeking God. That is the main reason i need to be IN THE WORD regularly and personally - to know God better. (I wish I had emphasized that point more in my sermon more yesterday.) It is not a duty, it is a relationship, me getting to know God better. This is accomplished as I stay close to the word (vs 10), memorize the word (vs 11), speak the word (vs 13), celebrate over the word (vs 14), as I meditate on the word (vs 15), and do not neglect it (vs 16). These are all great examples to follow, but rarely will someone experience all these daily. You are already experiencing one by not neglecting the word today. Today you are IN THE WORD. THAT IS AWESOME!

I pray as the psalmist prays "teach me your decrees" so I may know You more. Let me hear from you.

  1. I love the language used in "The Message." "How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word. I'm single-minded in pursuit of you; don't let me miss the road signs you've posted." My prayer is that I seek to be single-minded in my pursuit of God!

  2. Any Bebo Norman fans? "Your the Ocean Deep, I'm in up to my knees, wanting desparately to drown, Your the one bright part of my languid heart, Your the Love I cannot live without" A year ago I found myself listening to this song and thinking that I wanted to be drowning in Gods word. It reminds me of this Psalm, and Gods desire expressed over and over and over that we seek him. Lord help me be faithful in diving deep into your word and trusting you to change my life!

  3. Vs 9 used to make me cringe, like it's a challenge I'll never live up to. Nowadays, the whole passage is what I see, and I am taken back to times of great darkness and sadness in my life, and deep inside, I heard the word, I KNEW the word. When i was standing with my fists to heaven, I heard a voice inside, telling me I was loved, He was Love, and He would never leave me. So, while I was a teen and cringing about "God Stuff" the verses I learned, the "Bibleness" (new word!) i invested into my soul, was returned 10-fold when i needed it most. It makes me want more in the good times, so I am always that ready when I least except it. :)
**P.S. Yes I'm new, and I always talk so, heehee!
